My name is Eliza Giles and I'm a Vermont-raised junior at the University of Vermont. I'm studying English, Asia Studies, and film and I just returned home from a semester abroad in Bangkok, Thailand. For my next adventure I'll be studying in Varanasi, India with The Alliance for Global Education. This has been a year of travel and growth and I can't wait to continue learning about myself this coming semester.

My hobbies include music, cooking, and finding great reading nooks. I also spend my summers living in the huts of New Hampshire's White Mountains on the Appalachian Trail.

I'm really excited to begin learning a new language—something I learned I'm passionate about while studying Thai in Bangkok this past fall. A lot of Thai culture has its roots in Indian culture and I can't wait to explore these similarities this semester. I'll be taking photos and posting them here during the semester.

Thanks for following my adventures!

According to Lingayatist Shaivists, devotees should wear Ishtalingas, or small lingam necklaces around their necks at all times and perform puja to these small lingams.

Holi... and a Party!

Holi with my host family was... crazy. Before we'd even started eating gujias (traditional Holi food) our host uncle visiting from Mumbai covered our faces in green paint. Then the day continued on the roof as everyone covered each other in wet holi paint. The women ripped the men's shirts off with their teeth!
